PALLADIUM CIGARETTE BOX

This is a fun find.

I just lowered the price!!!

It is a box that Rock used for years and then gave it to me.  Here is the story behind that......>

It is a very old cigarette box, probably from the 30's or 40's and Rock used to keep his cigarettes in it.   I had seen him carrying this box for years by then.

Back then, now and again,  he smoked non-filtered cigarettes. Then came time he was going to be giving up non-filtered cigarettes completely, and smoke only filtered cigarettes.  But  the box was not big enough.

I was with him that day,  was admiring the box and him trying to stuff filtered cigarettes into a place that they wouldn't fit,  so he tossed it to me and said "you can have it".

Anyone who knew Rock Hudson, knew that he did things like this all the time.  He was a very generous person and made light of most everything.

Well, at the time, we both thought it was silver.   Silver was about $6.00 /oz. or so.   Usually though,  silver is marked or/and hallmarked.   This box isn't. So I went to have it tested in Downtown Los Angeles at the jewelry mart to a guy he had sent me to,  we found out it was Palladium which did not have much value at the time either but a bit more than silver.  I think it was around $28.00 / oz.   A few years back, Palladium reached as high as $1200.00 / oz.  It has come down but is  a commmodity on par with  gold and silver now.

It weighs just under 4 troy ozs. Measures:   3.75" x 2.2" x .75"

It feels very heavy duty, solid as a rock (no punn intended).

The initials on the top,.... I asked him whose they were, (as they are not his) and he told me that it has the initials of the person who gave it to him.   He told me the name, but that was so many years ago, I forgot.

The initials are NS or SN.
